VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
Sometimes theatre can feel like it’s trying to smash you over the head with a sledgehammer when talking about particular issues.

And one of the things I particularly liked about Ilford Boy at the Darmar Warehouse is that yes, it does cover really big issues like homophobia and racism, but it does it in a far more subtle way.

The story is the story, and there is this underlying theme that threads through it.

It’s in the little comments that people make just the way it would be in real life, and it’s all the more powerful for it, I felt.

Now, this is a play that is a coming-of-age drama. It’s a family drama, and I really enjoyed it, as you can probably tell

It’s very witty. The characters are all really well drawn, and I can highly recommend it. I think it’s a brilliant piece of theatre and a brilliant piece of writing.

Postscript addition: I’m giving it five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
