I've been collating this list in my head for a while but struggling to give it some sort of cohesive title. It started out as stage actors (and some film actors but I might come onto that) who are also musicians. But in compiling two subsequent themes floated to the surface: music videos and Ben Whishaw.
So in the end its a sort of themed brain-dump of a list which one or two of you might appreciate. I certainly enjoyed compiling it, mainly because it's a good excuse to listen to some music and watch some music videos.
It all started with Johnny Flynn whom I first saw on stage in The Heretic in which he played and sang. This led to some googling and the discovery of his band Johnny Flynn and The Sussex Wit whose albums I now own and love.
I've seen him in lots of plays since and he is due to play Roger Taylor in the Freddie Mercury biopic opposite Ben Whishaw as Freddie. The prospect of him acting and singing in a film alongside Mr W brings me untold joy.
Next on my list is Olly Alexander whom I first saw on stage in Mercury Fur (he'd already been on the big screen with Mr W in Bright Star. I've subsequently seen them together in Peter & Alice but prior to that I discovered that he had a band called Years and Years. And lo and behold who should pop up in the bands latest video…
Now of course Mr W has been singing on stage in Mojo which led me onto the next actor/music vid appearance. One Rupert Grint, who was also in Mojo, but popped up in this Ed Sheehan video (he doesn't look very convincing strumming that guitar)
And this reminded me that Rupert's Harry Potter chum and fellow stage performer Daniel Radcliffe has also made an appearance in a music video (and he of course was part of the Michael Grandage season in which Mr W also appeared and I know they were at the same do's therefore they must have met).
Kudos to Mr Radcliffe for doing the entire video in one shot and for some spectacular air guitar.
Now that's where it sort of ends except I have a couple more actor/musicians who don't quite fit the mold of the above list, apart from the fact that they are actor/musicians and were both in Harry Potter films and therefore have a second degree connection with Mr W.
Neither has done any stage work other than while in training and I'd be surprised if either did venture away from their TV/Film/modelling careers to tread the boards. I'd be very curious to see them if they did. Very curious.
So my final two are Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Pattinson. JCB I have a soft spot for as he's been in some or my favourite teen movies and I did see him in a theatre once at the charity gala Curious Night At The Theatre. He wasn't sat that far away from me and was a very enthusiastic audience member, if I remember correctly. He has a band called the Darling Buds who have an EP coming out soon but I dug out this YouTube clip of him singing and strumming.
Robert Pattinson's musical talents are well known (among Twilight Fans). He sang and wrote a couple of songs for the soundtrack of the first film and also played piano. He hasn't release anything as far as I can tell but he has a lovely tone to his voice so I hope he does.
And that is the end of my…er…list, run along now.
